NCAA Football Week 3 FREE Picks:Cincinnati North Carolina State

As we entered 2010, North Carolina State University’s academic and athletic rankings had never been worse.  The University’s overall performance and perception amongst its large alumni base was in as deep of a valley as possibly could be imagined.

Woodson also addressed the recent U.S. News and World Report college rankings, in which N.C. State fell from 83 to 111. Woodson said “I’m not a guy that manages toward rankings,” but he was not completely dismissive of the drop.  I don’t think any of us were excited to see N.C. State drop out of top 100. NFL Week 2 Picks: New Orleans Saints vs San Francisco 49ers

New Orleans Saints (1-0, 0-0 away)  at San Francisco 49ers (0-1, 0-0 home).

Saints are favorites on their second challenge to defend the title, but the 49ers were the trendy pick to win the NFC WEST conference. The 49ers lack of communication in their offensive line was palpable, considering that TE Vernon Davis and receiver Michael Crabtree missed the undefeated pre-season, seems hard to get the chemistry required with their QB Alex Smith, their running game lacks of physical power. NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Baltimore Ravens vs NY Jets

Jets hype has been building for seven months, and they’ll finally have to back up it up Monday night, when they open their season against the Baltimore Ravens at New Meadowlands Stadium.

Sanchez, for better or worse, holds the Jets’ hopes in his hands. Skeptics believe he will handle that responsibility like he did last year — fumble it or throw it away. Read the rest of this entry »

NFL Week 1 Predictions:Dallas at Washington

While the Dallas Cowboys are the defending NFC East champions, the new-look Washington Redskins have garnered much more of the headlines in the offseason.

The Redskins brought in six-time Pro Bowl selection Donovan McNabb as well as Mike Shanahan, but it’s the new coach’s feud with disgruntled tackle Albert Haynesworth that has overshadowed the start of the season and tempered some of the enthusiasm for the once-proud franchise.

McNabb and Shanahan will make their Redskins debuts, and it’s unclear whether Haynesworth will see action – or even be in uniform – on Sunday night at FedEx Field against the Cowboys, who have aspirations of reaching the Super Bowl they are hosting.
When Dallas beat Philadelphia for its first playoff victory in 13 years, it turned out to be the final game for McNabb in an Eagles uniform. Philadelphia made the unusual move of trading McNabb within the division, and the Redskins were more than happy to take him and get rid of Jason Campbell after a 4-12 season.
“Sometimes change is better,” McNabb said. “Sometimes you’re forced into change. I would have loved to (stay in Philadelphia), but it didn’t happen.”
The question for Washington this week is how effective McNabb will be. He sprained an ankle in a preseason game against Baltimore on Aug. 21 but returned to practice this week, admitting he’s not at 100 percent.
“Yes, I will be starting this weekend,” McNabb said. “And I look forward to it.”
The quarterback also has tried to help mediate a bitter dispute between Shanahan and Haynesworth, who initially balked at the Redskins’ move to a 3-4 defense and was forced by the former Denver coach to repeatedly take a conditioning test before he could participate in training camp.
The latest development came when Shanahan used Haynesworth for 49 of 55 snaps in the preseason finale against Arizona last Thursday in a game in which 31 players weren’t even in uniform. Shanahan claimed Haynesworth needed the action to get into “football shape,” yet hasn’t even committed to playing the tackle who signed a $100 million contract before last season.
So everyone watch out for the reigning NFC East Champions, that’s all I have to say!

NFL Week 1 Predictions: Minnesota at New Orleans

Minnesota at New Orleans /Thursday Sept 9th, 2010

Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan is listed as probable for Thursday night’s season opener in New Orleans, even though he has missed virtually all of preseason with a calf injury.

That’s a big break for the Vikings, who tried second-year pro Jon Cooper and veteran guard Anthony Herrera at center in Sullivan’s absence to mediocre results.
Cornerback Cedric Griffin and rookie running back Toby Gerhart are questionable with knee injuries. Griffin said he feels ready to go after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in the NFC title game against the Saints in January.

For all the time Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings have spent studying his fumbling problem, knowledge and strategy will mean nothing if he loses the ball this week in New Orleans.

The extra-aggressive Saints are sure to be trying to strip Peterson of his most prized possession in Thursday’s season opener, with the NFC championship game memory still fresh. The All-Pro running back’s 122-yard, three-touchdown performance on that epic January night was tainted by two fumbles, plus a botched handoff with Brett Favre.
NEW ORLEANS — Saints running back Reggie Bush said Wednesday that he hasn’t heard anything from the Heisman Trophy Trust about being stripped of the award he won at USC in 2005. He also didn’t give any indication that he would voluntarily give it back — for now.
“At this point, it’s out of my hands,” Bush said after the Saints’ final practice before they play host to the Minnesota Vikings in Thursday night’s NFL season opener. “The Heisman Trust people released a statement that whatever was said was inaccurate.”
Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday that Bush would have his Heisman Trophy stripped by the end of this month as a result of an investigation by the trust. The NCAA levied sanctions against USC for violations during the 2005 season, and Bush was deemed ineligible for his role in those infractions.
Watch out for the former SUPERBOWL champions as they are on the road to another victory.
