Even though the season is still in its infant stages, not many people ever expected to see the Baltimore Ravens among the top of their division.  After all they are starting a rookie quarterback and their defense just seems to get older every year.  However, so far, so good.  Their rookie quarterback, Joe Flaco has been steady, if not spectacular, making minimal mistakes, while the defense has been spectacular, giving up only 10 points in each of their first two games.  But, those two games were against the struggling Cincinatti Bangles and the equally struggling Cleveland Browns.  They will face their first true test of the year when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a good start in what is widely considered the best division in the NFL, the NFC East.  Their only loss came to the NFC East first place team, Dallas Cowboys, in what was one of the best Monday Night Football games of all time.  The final score of 41-37 was also the second highest score on Monday Night Football in the history of the game.  Even thought they lost the game, it showed the Eagles will be one of the better teams in the league, and that quarterback Donnovan McNabb is healthy for the first time in years.  This year he has completed 66.7 percent of his passes.  For his career he is only at a 58.9 percent clip.  He has also thrown for five touchdowns with one interception.

The Brett Favre era in New York has officially hit its first bump in the road. The New York Jets lost to the New England Patriots, who entered their game with a different quarterback for the first time since the 2000 season. Matt Cassel stepped in for Tom Brady, knocking of the Jets 19-10. The Chargers haven’t exactly had a smooth start either in their 2008 campaign. They have lost two heartbreakers, both in the closing seconds of the game, to the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. If one play, or call, goes their way, the Chargers are 2-0 instead of winless.

A battle of undefeated NFC rivals will take place when the Dallas Cowboys travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers.  The Dallas Cowboys were expected to start off the year well, and continue it with a great run into the playoffs, but the Green Bay Packers weren’t quite sure they were heading after Brett Favre first retired, and then eventually became a member of the New York Jets.  Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has stepped in well, and while he may never fill the shoes of the great Green Bay legend, he is certainly on his way to making his own shoes.  Rodgers has been great, completing 40 of 62 of his passes for four touchdowns and no interceptions.

A great Monday night match-up will take place between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys, two teams who seemingly could do no wrong in their opening week victories.  The Philadelphia Eagles steamrolled over the St. Louis Rams 38-3, and it could have been worse had the starters not played most of the fourth quarters.  This was a big win for the Eagles because fans are starting to think that the Donnovan McNabb-Andy Reid era may be coming to a close soon, but both quarterback and coach are trying to prove otherwise.  It was also a good win because the Rams were expected to have somewhat of a bounce back season after winning only four games last year.

With Tom Brady possibly out for the season after suffuring a knee injury in the first quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs in week one, the AFC just became a lot more wide open.  Two teams that would like to fill the gap are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns.

The season for the Indianapolis Colts rests on the shoulders of Peyton Manning.  Actually, make that the knee.  While it’s been said for the last few weeks that Manning will be ready for the season opener against the Chicago Bears, Colts fans are nervous because without Manning at the helm, the offense has looked stagnant to say the best.  The knee injury of Manning is probably a serious one, it helps that he is a scrambling quarterback, generally staying in one place to deliver the ball.  However, that doesn’t mean a solid hit to the knee won’t happen.  The offensive line of the Colts will have the added responsibility of protecting the knee of Manning, because if he goes down, it appears the entire season will.

Imagine you are a Washington Redskins fan.  The preseason gave you Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor, you started the preseason 3-0, and your offense was looking pretty good under first year head coach Jim Zorn.  However, things quickly change, first, Jason Taylor gets a sprained knee, and then they lose their last two games to Carolina and Jacksonville by a combined score of 71 to 6.
