The 89th PGA Championship might be the most complete major championship examination of 2007. Again they will all meet in
Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Southern Hills Country Club to decide who will be the leader of this final mayor event of the year.
The first PGA Championship was held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. The winner, Jim Barnes, received $500. 2006 winner Tiger Woods received $1.224 million. The champion is also awarded the Wanamaker Trophy, which was donated by Rodman Wanamaker.
PGA champions are automatically invited to play in the other three majors (the Masters, U.S. Open, and the Open Championship) for the next five years, and are exempt from qualifying for the PGA Championship for life. They also receive membership on the PGA Tour for the following five seasons and invitations to the Players Championship for five years. The PGA Championship was established for the purpose of providing a high profile tournament specifically for professional golfers at a time when they were generally not held in high esteem in a sport that was largely run by wealthy amateurs. It is the only major which does not invite leading amateurs to compete, and the only one which reserves a large number of places, 20 of 156, for club professionals. These slots are determined by the top finishers in the club pro championship, which is held in July.
Tiger Woods is the obviuos favorite, he just won the MGC-Bridgstone Invitacional last week in Akron, Ohio. Even if he came out of his eight straight victory, he has had not mayor success at Southern Hills this is the third time he is entering a PGA after playing the week before.

Neither is Darren Clarke’s torn hamstring he is fully recovered from it, both of these top players are ready to take on the 7,131 yards of Southern Hills court including the heat wave that is being forecast for this week. This year PGA Championship has 66 international players from 23 countres making this the largest foreign born tournament in history.
