Michelle Wie Poor 1st Round - 2007 U.S Open, Pine Needles, North Carolina

Once again it seems that Michelle Wie has landed in the Spot light again and once more for the wrong reason again. This week the LPGA is hosting the Womens U.S Open which is being played at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Michelle has been hitting the spot light not because she has won a tournament but due to her bad form as of late. Yes given she had an wrist injury but how long can she keep using that as an excuse and get away with it, if she is playing bad then maybe she should simply take some time of and fine tune her game. She has been nothing but good to the game so lets hope for her to find her game and confidence and start playing like we all know she can.

In her last 20 competitive rounds she has failed to to break par in any of those rounds and being the player that she is with so much potential and skill and talent that is simply not acceptable at all. She has lost all the confidence that she has always shown and could that be because of all the bad press she has been getting and the way the reporters just cant wait for her to post another round in the 80’s so that they can trash her even more and break this young womans spirit!

No I don’t agree with her pulling out of the Ginn Tribute because she was struggling to break 90 that day, if she would have completed the round and not broken 90 then she would not have been allowed to play anymore tournaments on the LPGA for the rest of the year. So she pulled out siting that her wrist was hurting which is fine, but if ones wrist is not 100% then why risk it in the first place, not a valid excuse for me especially since she was seen hitting balls two days later. The worst was still to come because after the reporters got hold of her she spoke out and said the following “I don’t think I need to apologize for anything” that had to be a slap in the face of Annika Sorenstam.

On a personal note I think it all comes down to that she has been pushed too hard from a too young of an age and now its coming back to haunt her. I feel that she should have put her attention more on winning Junior Events around the US to really gain the experience of being able to win and do it being calm at the same time. I hate to say it but she is just like Anna Kournikova an attractive woman whom just can’t seem to win anything yet she is making more money that most thanks to her deals with Sony and Nike. Yes its sad that I threw in Kournikova to compare them, but hey don’t I have a valid point and I don’t think that I will be the last one either to do so.

Personally I would like for her to start playing well and winning tournaments left and right and showing that she can be one of the best if not the best player in the world, but I do not agree with her getting invites to play on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour or any other male tour. I could change my mind but only if she starts winning a lot on the LPGA tour and by large margins, if thats the case then I won’t have any problem with her playing out there and trying to beat the guys!

Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson looking for Walker Cup spot

logo06_mensgolf.jpg   Costal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson is on fire when it comes to his golf so far this summer, well he has been playing some high quality for sometime now, but now we are seeing it more than ever. Took a tied for 9th at the NCAA National Championship, then on June 18th he went along to win the Monroe Invitational by four strokes over Georgia Tech’s Cameron Tringale this was accomplished mainly by his third round which tied the course record a none other than 62 strokes.

One had to feel by this kind of play that he would be catching the eye of the US captain of this years Walker Cup team that will take place this year at Royal County Down Golf Club in Ireland. But for Dustin that was not enough or at least so he is making it seem because this weekened he went along to win the NorthEast Amateur and was the only player to finnish under par for the entire tournament. This by far has to have been one of the most amazing months of golf that the Native from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina also one has to feel that this is the greatest tournament that he has ever been the proud Champion of. He finnished the tournament at one under par two strokes better than Chris Kirk whom was a Senior this year at the University of Georgia and the winner of the Ben Hogan Award with is given to the top College/Amateur player and Drew Kittleson whom will be a Freshmen in the fall at Florida State University.

Johnson played all his four years at Coatal Carolina for Coach Allen Terrell and I feel that Johnson not turning pro this Summer has two reasons behind it, first of all his goal was to earn a spot at the Walker Cup which I think one can easily say that he now carries in his back pocket. The second reason has to be Coach Terrell whom has now been at Coastal for the past seven seasons. Personally I had the chance to meet Coach Terrell when he was the assistant Coach at Methodist College where I played my College golf in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

It will be interesting to see how these next weeks unfold because suddenly from out of no where everyones eyes has to be on Drew Weaver a Sophomore at Virginia Tech who just became the first American since Jay Sigel won the British Amateur in 1979 to lift this trophy and ended a 28 year frustration on the Americans side. Now not onyl is he in the spot light but also because he will be invited to play this years British Open and next years Masters if he stays Amateur, but I think he just threw his own name in the mix for a spot on this years Walker Cup Squad

Tiger Woods - PGA Tour Star, Shows Daughter Sam Alexis Woods to the World

samwoods2.jpg Mr. Tiger Woods became a father one Day after the US Open, on Monday June 18th early morning Elin Woods gave birth the couples first child a young daughter by the name of Sam Alexis Woods. So the cub that we have all come familiar with over the years is now a full grown Tiger with a cub of his own. The golfing world might have come to a stop when Angel Cabrera won the US Open by one stroke over Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.

I belive that it is safe to that the players on the PGA Tour are both happy for Tiger and Elin and at the same time happy themselves, why? well because Tiger pulled out of next weeks Buick Open. The Buick Open is always placed highly on Tigers schedule since he represents Buick, the tournament takes place at Warwick Hills Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Tiger is a two time champion of this event but whom can blame him for taking time of and spending it with Elin and Sam.

The question now lies on what kind of effect this will have on his golf game? Will this motivate him even more than what already drives him towards perfection or will this slow him down and take away the ambition to create perfection and become the player with most Major Wins by catching and passing none other than Jack! Personally I feel that this will provide Tiger with even more passion and do not be shocked if he shows up at the British Open this year and blow away the field!

Given that Tiger is now a proud dad, one has to feel his pain that he was never able to make his dad a Grandfather before he passed away last year. Those who have followed Tiger’s career all know that his Dad would be proud and for sure is looking down from Heaven with that big smile flashing on his face. I feel that here during the rest of the year we will come to see a new side of Tiger and I personally would like to see him peak again and amaze all us golf nuts again by destroying the field and the Open and maybe also at the PGA this year.

Pacman Jones surrenders !!

pacmans faceHis distinctive dreadlocks gone, Adam “Pacman” Jones posted bail, walked out of jail early June 22 and headed home to Nashville, leaving his lawyers to again sort out the legal entanglements of the suspended NFL player.

Jones surrendered to face charges in a Las Vegas strip club melee that preceded a triple shooting. The Tennessee Titans cornerback was released on $20,000 bail, and was scheduled to return for an initial court appearance July 23.

PacmansJones will plead not guilty to two felony charges of coercion stemming from allegations that he threatened to kill Minxx club employees and that he bit a bar bouncer, his lawyers said.

If convicted, the 23-year-old Jones faces a maximum of 12 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The arrest was the sixth for Jones since he was drafted in 2005. NFL and team officials declined comment.

Jones’ attorneys complained that police had unfairly handled his latest case.

“They gave us a one-day notice to get people cross-country on warrants that weren’t even issued yet,” lawyer Manny Arora said.

Antigua and the European Union Look for compesation.

Antigua

Antigua After the WTO ruled against the United States Unlawful Internet Gambling Act. The tiny little Caribbean nation of Antigua may be getting just a little bit richer by the tune of $3.44 billion. That’s the amount Antigua claims they are entitled to as a result of the US government ignoring a World Trade Organization decision related to online gambling.

The compensation would come from Antigua’s withdrawal of intellectual property protections for U.S. trademarks, patents and industrial designs, that nation’s government said.

“We feel we have no other choice in the matter, we have fought long and hard for fair access to the U.S. market and have won at every stage of the WTO process,” said Errol Cort, Antigua’s finance minister in an e-mailed statement. “This industry has been and can be regulated,” he said, adding that the dispute isn’t a moral issue, as claimed by the U.S.

After losing an appeal against earlier WTO decisions which found the U.S. ban illegal, the U.S. moved May 4 to “clarify” its commitments to the Geneva-based trade arbiter, saying it “never intended” to open its market to offshore Internet gambling when it made pledges on joining the WTO in 1994.

Since the Antigua government placed this request to the WTO the European Union is sending their own request.

EU
The European Union told the U.S. Tuesday that it wanted compensation for a U.S. foreign online gambling sites ban that doesn’t comply with global trade rules.

U.K. online gaming operators such as Sportingbet PLC (SBT.LN) and Leisure & Gaming PLC (LNG.LN) were forced to quit the profitable U.S. market last year when Washington stopped U.S. banks and credit card companies from processing payments to online gambling businesses outside the country.

The decision closed off the most lucrative region in a market worth $15.5 billion last year. About half of the world’s online gamblers are based in the U.S.

The EU move illustrates the current world climate as it pertains to the United States and its present administration. US President George W. Bush received a lukewarm reception during a recent visit to Europe and the Eastern Block. Only Albania greeted him with a “celebrity” welcome.

     Main Event of the Evening!!

marquardt.bmp                        VS.                         silva.bmp

Nate ‘The Great’ Marquardt                                                         Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva

Both of these fighters come in with a height of 6′0″ each and both players are currently carrying a weight of 185 pounds. Marquardt is the more experienced of the two fighters with a current record of 28-6-1 were as Silva stands with a record of 18-4-0. Even though these two talented fighters are the main attraction to this certain show down, I know that personally I’m more interested in the Rashad Evans Vs. Tito ‘Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ Ortiz whom will face up against Evans whom is still undefeated with a record of 15-0-0 where as Ortiz is 15-5-0.

tito1.bmp   Tito Ortiz is still notorious for his character, but is becoming an icon in the UFC and Mixed Martial Arts empire! It has now been ten years since he made his debut in UFC, Tito is by far one of the most recognizable names in the mixed martial arts world. A lightning rod for controversy and his explosive engergy in the Octogon but he attracts more than just fans and money. In the fight vs Liddell in 2006 this fight wass estimated to be the most watched pay-per-view event of any kind in 2006 with more than one million people paying the $39.95 in order to obtain the rights to view the fight.

The UFC has become known for its raw talent and brutal knock outs, yes it has its fair share that don’t approve of the violence but it is catching the attention of people all over the world and I can only imagine that it will continue to do so and more and more people I think will stop watching Boxing unless its a major title belt fight and start enjoying the fruits of the Mixed Martial Arts.

107th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country

us-open.bmp

So its finally that time of the year again the second Major of the year, none other than the United States Open, which is being played at Oakmont Country in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. Few venues in the world of golf have the championship tradition of Oakmont. Introduced in 1903 by designer Henry Fownes, Oakmont Country Club has hosted more major Championships than any other course in the U.S., including seven United States Opens, five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Championships, and one U.S. Women’s Open. Oakmont remains perhaps the most difficult course in North America, with 180 deep bunkers (personified by the Church Pews), hard and slick greens that slope away from the player, and tight fairways requiring the utmost precision. Oakmont was the site of “the greatest round of the 20th century”: Johnny Miller’s final round 63 at the 1973 U.S. Open. Golf Digest ranks Oakmont #5 in its most recent version of America’s Top 100 courses.

ogilvy.bmp Will last years winner Geoff Ogilvy the Aussie repeat his most glorious moment by defending his Crown from last year! The back to back Champions has been done 6 players only last one to pull this of was Curtis Strange in 1988-1989. The first one was Willie Anderson in 1903-1904, then it was John McDermott in 1911-1912, Bobby Jones in 1929-1930, Ralph Guldahl 1937-1938 then by my all time golfing hero Mr. Ben Hogan in 1950-1951. So if this young Aussie plans to join the ranks of those players then he better pray to the golfing Gods and show up with his A game. This is the 8th time that the open is being held here at Oakmont, it first hosted the Open in 1927 then 1935,1953,1962,1973,1983 and last time around it was in 1994 when we saw a three man play off between Ernie Els, Loren Roberts and Colin Montgomerie. That time it was the young South African’s turn to shine and he sure did.

This years Open is also some what special to a close friend of mine and I’m sure that the golfing world will be paying a close attention to his play from now on, yes Im talking about Pablo Benavides Martin. This young talented player has turned Pro and there for leaving the mighty Cowboys at Oklahoma State, the ones that have seen his talent can all say that it was simply a matter of time. Last week he made is Professional deput with an invitation to the St. Jude Championship he failed to make the cut by a single shot which to me just says its all a learning curve thats all. He has qualified for this years Open by going through Local and Regional qualifiers and has been paired with none other than two of his countrymen. He will play in the comfort of Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia and I’m sure that these three will find a way to make themselves feel comfortable and relaxed! So I won’t be shocked if we see these three fine players doing well.

Pablo is coming of what has been a good overall College Career but many expected him to do better. Martin repeated as the Big 12 Player of the Year and was tabbed as an honorable mention All-American in 2007. He was also named one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award, honoring the nation’s top collegiate player. The Malaga, Spain native posted his fifth career victory with his win at the Big 12 Championship in April and tallied three other top 10s during the season. Martin also made history this spring when he became the first amateur to win a European PGA Tour event, winning the Estoril Open de Portugal.

To summerize this years Open I’m sure the scores will be High some players are calling for the Winner to finnish at 10 over par for the week others are saying semilar to last year, but we will have to wait and see just how frustrating the USGA wants to make it for the players this year. The rough is brutal and the greens are already so firm and fast that the USGA had to water them down already, if this is a sign of things to come then we can expect the worse. Might turn out to be a Mickey Mouse Style tournament more like PUtt Putt, all we need are the laughing clowns out there too. The tall grass and rough is in some places so horrible that players are not even able to located their golf balls, so that makes me wonder is it too tough especially when one thinks that there is a par 3 that they can make as long as 288 yards from the back tee. If that is the case then we are going to be seeing players hitting drivers on a par 3 and still not getting there, could this lead to players laying up shot and hoping for a good pitch and pray to make the putt for par ?????

But one thing is for sure, I know I can’t wait for all this to start on Thursday. If you want to find me just look for the nearest TV that is showing the Golf I’ll be there glued to the TV as much as I can.

He’s not the chief anymore!!

Trent Green

The Chiefs traded Green to the Dolphins for a conditional 2008 fifth-round pick that turns into a fourth-round pick if the quarterback plays in 70 percent of Miami’s offensive plays.
So 70 percent is Kansas City’s magic number. If Green meets the number, it means that the Chiefs would have an extra pick in the fourth round, where they have drafted standout players such as linebacker Donnie Edwards and defensive end Jared Allen.

While Kansas City waits to find out exactly what it will receive, Green already knows what he is getting from Miami. Two months ago, Green and the Dolphins agreed to a three-year contract that is weighted heavily in Year 1 and leveled greatly in Years 2 and 3.

The contract’s length is not accidental. The 37-year-old Green is heading to Miami hoping to play three more NFL seasons. Green is scheduled to sign the contract on Thursday, one day before he takes part in his first minicamp with the Dolphins. Now the Green saga is, basically, over. But the one involving Daunte Culpepper is just beginning. Now that Green is a Dolphin, Culpepper has turned into Trent Green, waiting to see when and if he will be traded.
As of Wednesday night, the Dolphins were in discussions with three teams about a potential Culpepper trade. One source with knowledge of the trade talks estimated that there is a 50-50 chance that Miami will be able to deal Culpepper.

It’s not as if the Dolphins are seeking a lot in return, either. All they are asking teams for is a late-round draft choice, perhaps a sixth-round pick. Teams involved in the trade talks also know that Culpepper is willing to reduce the $5.5 million base salary he is scheduled to make this season, enhancing the chances of a trade.

Who the teams are is the most intriguing mystery in the NFL right now. None want their identities exposed due to the issues it would raise. Any team that acquires Culpepper would be sending a message to the rest of its quarterbacks that their jobs are in jeopardy.
None want to be identified, but some teams not interested in Culpepper can be named. Atlanta, Chicago, Minnesota, the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders, teams that, at various points, have been linked in some way to Culpepper, all said Wednesday that they have no interest in trading for or signing the soon-to-be former Dolphins quarterback.
Possible destinations for Culpepper according to NFL personnel men that speculated on the matter still include the Detroit Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New England Patriots and the St. Louis Rams.

But no teams were willing to come forward to claim they had any interest in Culpepper. There also is no reason for the Dolphins or other teams to fabricate any interest in Culpepper; the asking price for his services is too low.

So now that the Green question has been answered, the Culpepper one is up next.
The answer should come soon enough. The Dolphins and Culpepper want the matter resolved sooner rather than later, and the current game of musical chairs at quarterback could be wrapped up by the weekend.

SportBet.com offers players propositional wagers on every game as well odds to win their divisions and coference so keep your eye out for Trent Green and the Miami Dolphins.
