NEW MEXICO BOWL Preview
Temple Owls vs Wyoming Cowboys The first bowl of the season is the New Mexico Bowl, to be played at Albuquerque this Saturday at 2:00 pm, between the Temple Owls and the Wyoming Cowboys. These two teams might not be among the top ranked nationwide but they sure play an attractive football every time they get into the field. Both finished their season with an 8-4 record and this sure seems to be a tight game on the field. |

The Temple Owls have one of the best defensive teams ranked 3rd around the country and also one of the most ferocious attacks on the ground ranking 7th overall. Their pillar definitely is junior running back Bernard Pierce (1381 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns), who bears this team weight on his shoulders every game, because this team can’t score through the air making Pierce the only weapon they can rely on. Regarding their defense, they have built a very compact unit that put tons of pressure to the opponent’s quarterback, making their rivals to commit lots of turnovers on the field. On the other side of the field we have the Wyoming Cowboys, who don’t have a top ranked offense nor defense, but their passing game is just exciting, with junior quarterback Brett Smith (2495 passing yards on the season and 18 touchdowns) connecting with Chris McNeil (504 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns) and Josh Doctson (361 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns) making this offense a very inviting item to watch. During this season, the Owls averaged 385.5 total yards per game, scoring 30.1 points per game and allowing 13.8. The Cowboys have an average of 398.6 total yards per game, scoring 27 points per game and 27 against. This game has Temple as a 7 point favorite and the total is set on 50 points. I will recommend you to take the underdog here, because if Wyoming can stop Bernard Pierce, this game will sure go to the Cowboys, besides, their last matchup, the Cowboys walked off the field with a victory and the story looks to get repeated again. |
