The Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg (formerly the St. Petersburg Bowl) is a NCAA Division I FBS college football bowl game played annually at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was first played following the 2008 college football season, when it was known as the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl after corporate sponsor magicJack. When Beef O’Brady’s became the sponsor in 2009, the official name was changed to the St. Petersburg Bowl Presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s. The bowl game features teams from the Big East Conference and Conference USA, unless one of the conferences does not have enough teams bowl eligible, in which case the Sun Belt Conference is eligible to send a team.
This game features two old rivals. Southern Miss was a thorn in Louisville’s side in the 1980s and ’90s, so it’s fitting that the Golden Eagles await in the Cardinals’ first postseason appearance since the 2007 Orange Bowl. It’s a classic clash of offense (Southern Miss is the nation’s 15th-highest scoring team) vs. defense (Louisville finished 11th in total defense).
