The Denver Nuggets, leaders of the Northwest Division on the Western Conference, are flying to Texas  this Saturday, November 5th, to take on the hosting San Antonio Spurs, who seem to recover from a slow start and now have won their last five games in a row. NBA TV will have all the action of this game, expected to tipoff at 8:30 p.m.

The Nuggets had their winning streak cut off last Sunday, as they lost at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the second worst team in the league (only behind the awful New Jersey Nets, who are 0-17). The 106-100 final result also ended the Wolves 15-game losing streak against the team that had dominated them in the last three years, and it was also the end of Denver’s 17 consecutive regular season wins at home.

The home team somehow managed to blow a 14-point lead at halftime and allowed the visitors to take command, as the Nuggest scored only 12 points in the third quarter, a season low for points in a period. In spite of the loss, Carmelo Anthony came big as usual and scored 32 points, double of what the second best scorer on his team had (16 for Kenyon Martin).

Meanwhile, the Spurs are improving their season as they already have a 5-game winning streak and have abandoned the negative side of the standings. Also, one of those wins was at Golden State, it what has been San Antonio’s first and only victory on the road. Now, with a 9-6 record, they hold the second place in their division, two and a half games behind from Dallas.

Spurs big man, Tim Duncan, is on the top of performances in his team, averaging 18.5 points per game and almost 11 rebound per game (twice as much as any other team member), followed by “desperate husband” Tony Parker, who has 16.5 PPG.

This matchup will sure be a tough one, between two powerful squads with the same objective: lifting the NBA champions trophy, a mission that the Spurs are trying to attain for the fifth time and the Nuggets for the very first time. Not sure why, but I’m going with the Nuggets on this one. Carmelo Anthony seems stronger than Duncan, and that will make a difference at the end.
