Lyoto Machida is coming once again in this 104th edition of the Ultimate Fight Championship. He will try to defeat the other Brazilian, Mauricio Rua for the Light Heavyweight Championship belt. The tournament will be held at Los Angeles, California and is going to be televised in Pay Per View. The fights will be taking place this October 24th, 2009.

There is some background that we might see in order to follow the thread of this whole tournament. Chase Gormley who was slated to face Ben Rothwell will instead face Stefan Struve, while Sean Sherk which is injured will be replaced by Josh Neer. On the other hand, the UFC announced a portion of the preliminary card will air live and commercial-free during an hour long block on Spike which is going to be a great option to watch for the TV audience that will not make it to Los Angeles. Currently, the Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer and Antoni Hardonk vs. Patrick Barry fights will be shown on Spike in the U.S and ESPN in the UK.

The most important fight, with turns to be a really interesting match, is holding in one side a really experienced Brazilian fighter (Lyoto Machida) and on the other side, the another wild Brazilian Fighter Mauricio Rua. In deep we can see that Rua started his professional career at “vale tudo” events in Brazil, achieving three stoppages due to strikes, including a win over future Chute Boxe teammate Evangelista Santos. In a fast-paced bout, Santos matched Rua on the feet until Rua took Santos to the ground and forced a stoppage due to strikes from mount. Rua then entered the International Fighting Championship’s (IFC) “Global Domination” tournament.

On the other side of the ring, Machida uses a unique style that combines elements from his diverse training background to make it as suitable for the sport as possible. It is based mainly on shotokan karate and brazilian jiu jitsu, but also has techniques from Muay Thai, Wrestling, and Sumo which Machida says makes him “fully prepared for any situation” in the Octagon. Often described as “elusive,” Machida relies on cautious and precise counter-striking that frustrates his opponents into making mistakes. Machida has earned considerable respect from MMA fans, fighters, and commentators for his effectiveness and winning ways. At the same time, his cerebral and conservative style is sometimes deemed boring and unsatisfying to watch. Machida has drawn fire from fans, and criticism from MMA commentator for his limited aggression and many decision victories. In response to these criticisms, Machida said, “If you don’t like it, sorry. I always try to win.” He also stated that he believes fans are coming to appreciate the efficiency of his style just like they came to appreciate Royce Gracie’s jiu-jitsu.

It seems that Machida is a wilder fighter than Rua, and I personally think that Machida got this one ion the pocket already. The LIVE LINES are up and there are lots of options to take action in the fight. Take a look at the odds and get some bets now!!. More information here.
