NFL Sunday Night Week 6 Picks: New England Patriots vs. San Diego Chargers

Both of these teams made cross country trips last week, with opposite degrees of success. The New England Patriots, coming off a bye week and still getting over the loss of Tom Brady, traveled to California to take on the 49ers. The Patriots coaching staff showed that with two weeks to plan they can come up with a successful game plan against a team that really thought they’d be able to get a home win. The Patriots got their first franchise win in San Francisco, knocking off the Niners 30-21. The Chargers on the other hand traveled to Miami to take on a Dolphins team that was 1-2, but with their win coming against the Patriots. While it wasn’t pretty, the Dolphins were able to ruin the Chargers cross country trip with a 17-10 win. For a team that was predicted to be a Super Bowl threat, things aren’t looking well for the Chargers, as they see their record dip to 2-3.
It’s hard to imagine that in week six, fans would be calling for a must win game, but that appears to be the case as the Chargers need to quickly turn around their season if they want to make a name for themselves in the playoff hunt. It’s been hard of course, with LaDainian Tomlinson struggling with a nagging toe injury, and the rumors of he’s lost a step. Also, there is a report that Tomlinson added more injury to the toe in the Miami loss when a defender stepped on it during one of his runs. LT has only broke the 100 yard barrier once this year, and against the D of New England and the injury, things aren’t looking good for him.
The Line is currently even, but things are looking good for the Patriots in my estimation. Despite their new quarterback, the team won’t be worried about playing on the road, and in their minds it would seem they have nothing to lose while the Chargers are on the verge of heading to 2-4 with no safe spots in their schedule in sight. I like the Patriots in this one purely because of the swing of momentum heading in two entirely different ways.
