Two teams that come from defeats will face off next Thursday, October 29th, at 7:30 pm Eastern Time. The North Carolina Tar Heels(4-3) will visit the Virginia Tech Hokies (5-2) in a game in which both squads will want to hop back on the road of victory.

Virginia Tech, who did not play last week, fell on October 17th against Georgia Tech, 28-23. They had a good fourth quarter, closing with a 6 point lead, but the game was already decided: they were already 11 points behind and were not able to recover, thus receiving their second loss of the season, leaving them with a 5-2 record.

Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt controlled his team offense, not by air, but on the ground, as he rushed for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns, to get the Yellow Jackets biggest triumph in years. This was their first win at home over a top-five team since they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in 1962.

North Carolina let a a nine point lead at halftime (18-point lead later on) slip away and ended losing the game, 30-27. They scored 17 points in the first two quarters but were contained to just 10 in the last 24 minutes. Even though the time of possession was very tight (30:40 Florida State and 29:20 North Carolina) and the Tar Heels outbeat the Seminoles in rushing yard (238 yards in 41 against just 43 in 25), Florida State beat them in passing yards (395 to 95).

The Seminoles ended the game with 438 total yards, the most allowed this season by North Carolina, a team considered to have one of the best defenses. The responsibles for this was Seminole quarterback Christian Ponder, who three for a career-high 395 yards and three touchdowns, along Rod Owens, who added career-highs of nine catches for 199 yards, including a 98-yard score. With this great performances they avoided Florida State’s fourth straight loss.

Despite both teams lost their last game, they are still tough rivals and they will prove so when they play this Thursday. North Carolina’s defense (the 3rd best) was ripped through the air last week, but Virginia Team seemed pretty weak in passing in their game, so the final result of this game will be tight to determine. At the end, I think the Yellow Jackets top-ranked power will come as a big factor, as they get the victory, once again.
