This Thursday night we find the top ranked Oregon Ducks at home hosting the California Golden Bears, one of the toughest rivals they’ve met last couple of seasons. Oregon comes home looking to extend their home winning streak, which is set on 19 home victories, and they return home after winning last week against the Arizona Wildcats 56-31. On the other side, California looks to bounce back after losing last week at the Washington Huskies home 31-23.

LaMichael James, league’s leading rusher with 613 yards and 7 touchdowns seems like starting this game for the Ducks, but don’t fool yourself, the Golden Bears are one of the most difficult defenses he has faced, struggling against them averaging 104.5 yards and 4.2 per carry. That’s when quarterback Darron Thomas has to step up on the game as he has done this year, having 842 yards and impressive 12 touchdowns to lead one of the most ferocious offenses on the league.

Zach Maynard, California’s quarterback has 1073 yards this season and 10 touchdowns, showing solid performances the first three games this year, but falling short last week against Washington. Having the duty of holding the team’s offense in his shoulders, Maynard has to bring his best on the field this Thursday night, backed up by his wide receivers, Keenan Allen and Marvin Jones, who have 873 yards and 6 touchdowns combined for the year.

Both teams have the same record (3-1) and this game is their chance to climb on the PAC-12 Conference and try to get to the top.

This sure looks like a tight game, even if the spread is setting Oregon as a 24 point favorite. Oregon averages 533.8 yards per game and California averages 456.3 in the same stat. Ducks average more rushing yards than the Golden Bears (299.5 versus 161.0) but we look the opposite situation on the passing yards where California takes the lead (308.3 against 235.3), but the big and more important difference comes when we check the points per game; Oregon scores 52.0 points per game and allows 24.5 while California scores 39.5 and allows 24.3 per game. And looking at those numbers I will recommend to take Oregon at home in this one. Enjoy the game.
