CFLHAMvsCAL

The Hamilton Tiger Cats will go to McMahon Stadium to visit the Calgary Stampeders and continue the action of Week 14 of the 2009 CFL season. The game is scheduled to kickoff this Saturday, October 3rd, at 7:00 pm Eastern Time. The Stampeders have won their last 4 games at home against the Ticats, and will try to continue that streak.

Calgary defeated the B.C. Lions last week, 27-18, and is 3-1 in the last four games. Their only loss, however, came coincidentally against Hamilton in week 12, 24-17. The Tiger Cats, on the other hand, suffered a big loss last week to the division-leading Montreal. The result? An embarrassing 42-8.

With such results, Calgary sits below Saskatchewan and holds the second place in the West Division with a 7-5 record, while Hamilton is also in the second place in their division, East, but has an even record of 6-6. A bigger difference comes when we compare their home and away records: the Stampeders are 4-2 when playing in McMahon Stadium, and the Tiger Cats have a 1-4 record when playing away.

In the last decade, Calgary has an overwhelming dominance over Hamilton when playing at home. They have an 8-2 record and have won the last 4 in a row, with these games ending with an average score of 34-16. Calgary’s offense averages 453 yards per game in the forementioned matches, with 161 rushing yards and 300 yards per contest as well.

Meanwhile, Hamilton’s offense has had some trouble this years, as they rank between fifth and sixth in point per game (they average 23.3), yards per game, second-down conversions and some others. The Ticats QB had a 6.8 rating last week and was replaced by Kevin Glenn and then rookie Adam Trafalis.

Considering the overall stats, and how strong the Stampeders seem to be when playing at home, I think that Calgary should take this game by more than 10 points, since both their offense and defense are really good, and the Tiger Cats’s offense is not doing so good, so they shouldn’t be a real threat.
