SMU Mustangs play Texas A&M Aggies Sunday 4th

With the first game on Sunday being at 3:30pm between in state rivals in West Virginia, the second game that we will be able to enjoy is that of two teams from Texas and sadly both teams are looking to change conferences so there might be a little too much on their minds for their own good. The second game on Sunday is the one that matches up Southern Methodist University Mustangs against the Texas A&M Aggies and the game is being played at Kyle Field which is located in College Station, Texas home of the Aggies and the game is being played at 7:30pm eastern.

Currently SMU plays in the Conference USA and Texas A&M plays in the Big 12 Conference in the south Division of that conference, but they want to move to the SEC and if that happens then SMU would like to fill in the spot that is left void by the Aggies. Of course these changes won`t take place until next year since this year’s schedules have already been forged around the teams that are in those respective conferences.

Let`s take a look at how the two teams did last year, SMU finished 7-7 for the season which was not very impressive, but they did finish an impressive 6-2 in Conference play. They also earned a trip to the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl where they lost to Army with a final score of 16-14. Texas A&M finished the season 9-4 and also 6-2 in conference play and they got smacked around in the AT&T Cotton Bowl by the then ranked eleven LSU the final score was 41-24. This year the Aggies will look to try and build on their success from last year which this year earned them their first top 10 preseason ranking since 1999 and with a ranking of eight they better come to play. They do have one thing really going in their favor and that is that there are a lot of seniors returning to the team and they would love nothing more, but to leave the school with a winning season.

One thing that is a little iffy for the Aggies is that Ryan Tannehill will begin his first season as a starting Quarterback, he used to play as a receiver and last year he played a little as Quarterback. Tannehill has only thrown for 1683 yards, thirteen touchdowns and six interceptions, if he throws an interception early in the game that could for sure have a downward spiral effect on his play and confidence.
