After spending 2 seasons at English giant Chelsea FC, international player for Portugal Deco signed a 2 years contract with Brazilian giants Fluminense, a dream come true for him. Deco returns to Brazil after 14 years playing away from Brazil; he began his career with Corinthinas in 1996 and after a very prominent start he moved to Portuguese team Benfica.
Deco has a very good career making his years at FC Barcelona the best of his life, where he won 2 La liga Championships and a European Title. He was a very important part of the mid part in Barcelona, he was the playmaker and the one calling the shots, you could say one of the big guys. After this great time at Barcelona he dreamt bigger and made the move to Chelsea FC in 2008, after Luis Felipe Scolari was named coach of the Blues and wanted him in the squad.
His years at Chelsea were not the best for him, because he got into a team full of stars looking for a place in the 11. He started the preseason and the season playing regularly but injuries and the conditions of other players like Michael Ballack, Obi Mickel and symbol Frank Lampard, put him in the bench for most part of the season in 2008. He had minutes with the Blues in 2008; but season 2009 was a shocking one for him, injuries and the bad shape he had due to the lack of playing in the top flight, made him not to gain many minutes with Carlo Anchelotti now in command.
For the 2010 – 2011 Barclays Premier League tournament manager Carlo Anchelotti talked to him and to Chelsea board and told them he was not in the plans for this season, so they gave the freedom to Deco to look for a new team for him, they were going to release him as a free agent. Fluminense opened the doors to Deco but some problems with the contract with Chelsea delayed the transfer but after talks with both parts they got an agreement and Deco joined Fluminense in August. The transfer was for 2 years and the player is going to make $9 million per year.
This was Deco’s dream to return to the place that saw him rise and with 32 years old he sees this opportunity to give back to Brazil everything it gave to him.
