The Tour de France 2009 edition is around the corner. Running from Saturday July 4th to Sunday July 26th 2009, the 96th Tour de France will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,500 kilometers. Last year the winner was Carlos Sastre and this year we are expecting Lance Armstrong to get on the list of participants. So, we still look the most favorite to win this competition.
This year the route is going to be more interesting. Is made out of 21 stages and the distribution of those stages is like follows in the next list:
• 10 flat stages,
• 7 mountain stages,
• 1 medium mountain stage,
• 2 individual time-trial stages,
• 1 team time-trial stage.
There is some distinctive aspects of the whole race that we should take in consideration in order to pick the favorites to win each stage. We will see that there is 3 mountain finishes, so, we are looking for the ones favorites winning the mountain stages from last year to win this ones.
There is also just two days of resting in the whole competition. That is what is going to make hard this competition because having almost 3500 kilometers of ride in 22 days with just two days of rest is going to kill the athletes.
On the other hand, there is two stages a total of 55 kilometers of individual time trial which makes this kind of interesting. There is also 38 Kilometers of team time trial as well.
On the mountain stages there is 20 category 1 and category 2 highest level passes to be climbed. At this point we see that the organization is making a hint on the favorites to pick on this. MOUNTAIN is what they will see in front of them. We can start picking the Colombian guys which are really good climbing mountains.
There is also some cities that are going to be the center of some stages. They are Brignoles, Gérone (Espagne), Issoudun, Martigny (Suisse), Saint-Fargeau, Tonnerre, vatan, Verbier (Suisse).
Don’t miss the opportunity to get some action on the competition. The lines to get action on it are going to be posted soon.
