Square Eddie is out of the race for this up coming 135th Edition of the Kentucky Derby. The Canadian-Bred has a really bad skin problem. This is not the first time with this issue, it’s not something completely new. It was matter of time, it is not official that there is only going to be 19 horses at the race.

Last Sunday, during workout, the horse developed a hot spot in the same shin that was forcing the horse to the sidelines earlier in this year. Trainer Doug O’Neill confirmed that and now is official that the horse is not going to run based on its owner (J. Paul Reddam) decision to let the chestnut the opportunity to heal completely and come back later.

Certainly, some other sources of information confirm that maybe is nothing because there is no confirmation of hurt on the x-rays that were took on Monday this week. The x-rays in fact didn’t show any possible hurt, but the shin was warm and based in the doctor’s (Dr. Mark Cheney) recommendation of not taking any chances, the decision came up and the results were in letting the horse rest for the race.

“We thought he’d come out of his work Sunday in good shape”

“In the end, we decided to err on the side of caution. Mr. (Paul) Reddam said ‘Do what’s in the best interests of Eddie,’ and that’s what we’ve done.”

Square Eddie had suffered a small fracture in his left front leg following a workout in February in California and had been backed off training and racing until he returned to action April 18 at Keeneland in the Lexington Stakes.

Is not that I want to show no optimism about this, but, when a horse like these ones start showing problems, fractures, inflammations and all the sort of possible injures that ends on a bad performance, the best decision is to let them rest from racing.

The Canadian-bred now will be shipped back to California “either next Monday or Tuesday,” according to O’Neill, and the position of the owner and the trainer is to let the horse relax.

“We’re just on chill mode with him now,” he said. “There’s no real plan from here; we’ll let him tell us how he’s doing and when we can start back with him.”

The odds for the rest of the horses still up to get some action. Don’t miss the chance to pick the winning horse for the most exciting 2 minutes in sports !!  Kentucky Derby Betting Bonus
