Saturdays ACC showdown was no let down by any means maybe it was not the outcome most people had come to expect. The Duke Blue Devils were looking to beat their in state rivals the UNC Tar Heels and hence win the ACC regular season championship and sweep the series this year.

But the Tar Heels had other things on their minds, they came out taking advantage of the game in the first half just like they did on February 9th at Cameron Indoor Stadium when they led 43-29 at half time.

This time they led 51-39 and were not going to allow the Blue Devils to make a second half comeback. The first game they let the Dukies come back and win the game 79-73 but this time they controlled the second half and also won the second half 30-28 and ended up winning the game 81-67.

With this clutch win at home and over the defending National champions they took over the top spot in the ACC and won the regular season.  It was a bitter sweet victory for the Heels who absolutely controlled the game throughout the entire 40mins. Their offense shot 52 percent from the field which is the highest percentage that the Blue Devils have allowed in any league play this season.  The main factor behind Duke not being able to pull another second half comeback was the lack of Kyle Singler being able to score and that Harrison Barnes played a lot more aggressive this time around! With the win the Tar Heels now earned the top seed to the ACC Tournament that will start next week.

One can`t wonder if we will not witness a Blue Devil versus Tar Heel final and if that happens its guaranteed to be an intense battle because the seniors of both sides will love to leave college with the notion that they beat their most fierce rival. The joy was overwhelming by the UNC students and as the time ran out both fans and students rushed the court to celebrate the easy win over the Blue Devils it was such madness that the UNC coach Roy Williams had to get on the speaker system and ask the crowd to clear off the court in order to allow his players to celebrate his own tradition by clipping down the nets after they clinched the league title.

Now we will just have to wait and see if we are fortunate enough to witness another battle of the titans during the conference tournament.
